Austria-based Brixton Motorcycles has unveiled four motorcycles in India: Cromwell 1200X, Cromwell 1200, Crossfire 500X, and Crossfire 500XC. The brand has partnered with Kolhapur-based KAW Veloce Motors, a subsidiary of KAW Group.
The Brixton Cromwell 1200X is an urban scrambler, complete with tubeless block-pattern tyres on spoked wheels, and fork gaiters. The overall design gives off a clean and rugged old-school scrambler appeal. It’s powered by a 1222cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine that makes 83PS at 6550rpm and 108Nm at 3100rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. It has a telescopic KYB fork, and KYB rear shocks. The front wheel is 18 inches with a 110-section tyre while the rear is a 17-inch with 150-section tyre. It has an 800mm seat height and a 235kg kerb weight. With a claimed mileage of 21.74kmpl and a 16-litre fuel tank, the Cromwell 1200X should have a range of about 347km. It’s priced at an equivalent of Rs 10.32 lakh in Europe.
The Brixton Cromwell 1200 is a retro-roadster with the same engine configuration as the 1200X. The only (slight) difference is the design, which looks proper old-school and very much like a true-blue roadster. This too has spoked wheels, but shod with more road-oriented tubeless tyres. Rest of the specifications remain the same. It’s priced at an equivalent of Rs 9.99 lakh in Europe.
The Brixton Crossfire 500X is a rugged take on a cafe racer, flaunting an aggressive and muscular design. It gets a 486cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine that makes 47.85PS at 8500rpm and 43Nm at 6750rpm, mated to a six-speed gearbox. The Crossfire 500X has a compression-adjustable USD fork and a monoshock with rebound and preload adjustability. It rolls on 17-inch wheels with tubeless tyres – 120-section front and 160-section rear. It has a 795mm seat height and a 190kg kerb weight. With a claimed 25kmpl mileage and a 13.5-litre fuel tank, it should have a range of about 337km. It costs an equivalent of Rs 6.28 lakh in Europe.
The 500XC is a more kitted-out scrambler that looks like it’s ready to take on the rugged terrain. It has the same engine as the 500X. The front suspension has compression adjustability and 150mm travel, while the rear has preload and rebound adjustability, with 130mm travel. This one has a bigger 19-inch spoke front wheel with a 110-section tyre and a 17-inch spoke rear wheel with a 150-section tyre. It has a 195kg kerb weight, and a rather tall seat height of 839mm. The Crossfire 500XC costs an equivalent of Rs 6.91 lakh in Europe.
All these motorcycles are coming to India as CKD (completely knocked down) units, and will be assembled at KAW Veloce Motors’ facility in Kolhapur. This means these bikes should be priced slightly higher than what they are in Europe.
In the initial stages, Brixton Motorcycles will be available in Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Cochin, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vapi, and Panjim. Brixton Motorcycles has also announced that the upcoming Storr 500 adventure bike will be unveiled globally in November (most likely at EICMA 2024), and will be launched in India later.
